Good to know
Before wallpapering you should turn off the power of the respective room in the fuse box. The wallpaper that you choose can perform several tasks.
You can create a quiet backround or connect areas in the home. You can put a highlight or emphasize furniture. Wallpaper are made of paper or non-woven backing which are printed or coated on the front.
On a roll of wallpaper are always following product information available. The manufacturer, article number, production number, and to be observed wallpapers symbols. Based on the so calles production number can be seen if all the roles are from the same printing stage. Importantly, it is to check the processing of the rolls, because otherwise it could lead to color variations.
The icons that are displayed show, for example: if the wallpaper can be washed off or it is resistant against rubbing or good light resistant. Each wallpaper has a specification to the pattern displacement, these symbols are called Rapport. There is free match, straight match and offset match. Other symbols can be: Paste the wallpaper, paste the wall, pre-pasted.
In addition, the symbols show how to remove the wallpaper again later. Here there is completely dry strippable, peelable strippable or remove wet. With non-woven wallpaper it is always advantageous if you precoat the wall with a tinted wallpaper primer. So you avoid shine trough of patches and can remove the non-woven wallpaper completely dry.
Prepare surface and check
Before you can begin the wallpapering, the substrate needs to be ‘’tipp topp’’. That means all old wallpapers and substrates need to be completely removed. The walls need time to dry. If you are not sure you can make the film-test!
Attach a film all around on the wall, if it has formed condensation over night, need the wall to dry still. The substrate must be clean, dry and viable. Then irregularities are repaired with a filler and then be sanded. When everything is dry and smooth, the walls can be primed with a primer.
This also prevents that the walls absorb all the paste. If you have now decided to wallpaper a wallpaper with non-woven backing, you should precoat with a white wallpaper primer to avoid patches and shine through.
Wallpapering with fleece / non-woven wallpaper
Very important before wallpapering a non-woven wallpaper is priming the walls. This should be done with a wallpaper primer in white. The wallpaper primer is specially suitable for wallpaper with non-woven backing and is already pre-primed white.
Since non-woven carrier are slightly translucent, might otherwise stains or anything be visible. All four walls are then primed with a intended wallpaper primer.
When this step is done, and the primer has dried, you can begin with the actual wallpapering. For this purpose, you need the following tools: wallpapering brush, brush, lambswool roller, folding, wallpaper scraper, seam roller, cutter knife, scissors, special paste for non-woven wallpaper and of course the wallpaper!
First, the special paste is stirred with cold water, this should be done in a circular motion. After stirring, the paste has a swell time. Since the non-woven backing of the wallpaper is dimensionally stable, oes the wallpaper neither expand yet it shrinks. Thus, the wall can directly be pasted and the wallpaper can be dry inserted into the paste bed. In this case, you should not apply too little paste, because you can adjust the wallpaper a little without being directly connected to the wall.
Now you can bring strip to strip onto the wall. For this you can use the wallpaper seam roller and the brush. The wallpaper roll is first pressed by hand and later deleted from the top with a roller or a brush brushed smooth. For this reason, an ideal wall covering for any amateur craftsmen. You save time and energy. Especially later by tearing off the wallpaper, because off the previously used basic, you get the wallpaper down effortlessly.
Because wallpaper need to swell and need a soak time of at least 7-10 minutes, all strips need to be folded together. That means, the stripe is at the top 2/3 and at the bottom 1/3 folded.
If the wait time is up and the wallpaper has accepted your desired shape, it can go to the wallpapering. Also paper-wallpapers are first pressed by hand and then when they are seated, using a rubber roller or a wallpaper brush firmly and evenly smoothed so that no wrinkles appear and the air can escape to the left and right.
Top and bottom can be cut off the supernatant wallpaper with a wallpaper scraper and a wallpaper knife. Fresh glue stains can paste as long as they are wet or removed with a damp sponge or cloth. After wallpapering should not do too much ventilation or heating. Otherwise, the seams could come off.
At special wallpapers plays the optics a very important role. These are usually extravagant and flashy. This includes often shrilly and bright colors. Also, the material of a special wallpaper is not comparable to a conventional wallpaper.
There are many different wallpapers. Metallic wallpaper, embossed wallpaper, Cork wall coverings, plastic-wallpaper, vinyl wallpaper and textile wallpapers. This particular wallpaper need a special processing and adhesive technology. In this connection, may seam roller not be used often, otherwise the individual embossed structures are flattened.
With the high-quality wallpapers, it is recommended to always do a double seam cut, to avoid unsightly edges. In case of a metal wallpaper it is always important to ensure that the ground is smooth and has no irregularities. Because these wallpapers are usually made of a metal foil such as aluminum whose surface is usually printed or embossed.
Because this product has a high degree of gloss can every ireegularity be seen. Some wallpapers are also already pre-glued, which means you can save the pasting of wallpaper and this must only be brushed with water to get it to the wall. For very high claims there are "flame retardant" or "non-flammable" wallpapers. These are often used for danger zones such as great kitchens and hotels. Since all of these wallpapers are very particular, and the claims for processing are very demanding these papering should be done by a specialist.
Pitched roof and cover
Wallpapering a pitched roof is very easy. Prerequisite before wallpapering is a smooth, viable and clean wall. Many walls extend from the ceiling to the floor not vertikal, the so called arches are often used as an accent.
At a pitched roof it needs to be payed attention, that while wallpapering, the strips are not pulled trough to the bottom, but are recognized at the interface of the socket. The only way to avoid cavities and wrinkles.
When the wallpaper has a pattern offset, this must of course be particularly paided attention to. Now the rest of the pitched roof can be papered. The ceilings are always very important, these bring a clear structure into the room. The standard ceiling height is usually at 2.5 meters. Of course there are no upper limits.
If no wallpaper is wallpapered, you can start right away, but if still sticking old wallpaper on the ceiling, they must be removed first. Here you can take a number of tools hand. A so called hedgehog makes holes in the old wallpaper, the wallpaper remover runs into the holes and replaces the old paste. Once everything is removed, the new wallpaper can be papered at the ceiling.
Here you can best paint lines with a chalk line to bring the wallpapers clean and straight to the ceiling. Thereafter, the paste is applied to the ceiling. Thus, the whole works well for one person and is not too complicated, if a second person should lend a hand. The first track is laid with an overhang to the wall in the paste. So you get the perfect start.
Then cut with a spatula and cutter knife the come through of the wallpaper and the ceiling is finished.
